A native of Gallia County, Ohio, Charles Milton Buck lived in Huntington for 50 years.
In Huntington, he found a job at the American Car & Foundry (ACF) rail car plant. After working there for many years, he retired in 1930 as foreman of the plant’s machine shop. He was also prominent in Huntington political affairs and in 1903 was elected mayor for a two-year term sandwiched between Mayor Gordon’s two terms. Previously, Buck had served as a member of City Council and a city building inspector.
When Buck, a Republican, took office as mayor he was joined by 10 Republican council members. But even though they all were members of the same party, he and the council members didn’t see eye to eye and were locked in hopeless disagreement for much of his term.
In 1934, Buck suffered a heart attack and went to Baltimore for treatment. He died there the following year.
