George Robert Seamonds was born in Barboursville in 1873 and graduated from Morris Harvey College, then located in Barboursville, in 1893. He worked in a clerical capacity for the Chesapeake & Ohio Railway for 15 years and from 1908 to 1914 was secretary of the Jarvis Machine & Supply Co.
A Democrat, Seamonds was elected to three six-year terms as Cabell County circuit clerk, serving from 1915 to 1932. He then was elected Huntington mayor for two two-year terms, from 1937 to 1940.
He died in 1955 at age 82.
